Jasolyn Harris

Jasolyn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and MDiv graduate of Duke Divinity school. Jasolyn is also an activist and currently mobilizes with other minoritized students to make Duke Divinity School more equitable particularly for queer and trans people of color. Prior to returning to school in August of 2016, Jasolyn worked as a Sociology Instructor at Diablo Valley College, Wellness Counselor and Counseling Team Supervisor at Aspire Richmond Cal Prep Academy, and Academic/General Counselor for foster youth at Los Medanos College. Jasolyn also worked at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California as a medical and clinical social worker in the Adolescent Medicine department and various other places. Jasolyn has extensive experience in crisis, trauma, grief, sexual assault, suicidal/homicidal assessment and intervention with individuals/communities that hold multiple marginalized identities. As it relates to this project, Jasolyn offers expertise from both her lived and professional experiences as a Black queer woman. Jasolyn is particularly interested in exploring and creating safe, alternative, spiritual spaces for queer and trans people of color who have experienced various amounts of spiritual violence and trauma within Christian churches.
